Homemade Apple Pie
Homemade Apple Pie

Nothing & I mean NOTHING compares to the smell of a homemade apple pie being baked in your house! It is the ultimate comfort dessert and it truly does not get any better than a slice of apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.

There are tons of apple pie recipes out there and I have tested and tried TONS. This one is the VERY BEST because of a special, bakers secret .

It takes a little more time than a normal apple pie would, but its worth the extra time and work! Trust me on this! Sitting overnight will be the KEY component here!

Ingredients:

  • 2 sheets of homemade pie crust
  • ¼ tsp fresh lemon
  • 8-10 granny smith green applies (peeled & cored)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • ½ granulated white sugar
  • ¾ cup light brown sugar
  • 2 TBSP butter (or coconut oil)

Ingredients for pie crust *DOUBLE RECIPIE FOR 2 PIE CRUSTS* :

*You can use the option of a pre-made pie crust here. If you prefer to make your own, follow the below*

  • 1 & ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp coconut sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ cup cold butter (cut into tablespoon sized cubes)
  • ¼ cup water

Directions for pie crust:

  1. Combine all ingredients, except water in a large bowl.
  2. Work in butter cubes by using a butter cutter or a butter knife. Do NOT overmix here!
  3. Once dough is formed into a crumbly texture, add in your water.
  4. Work the dough together by kneading with your hands on a floured surface.
  5. Once formed into a ball, start to roll out to desired thickness.
  6. Carefully transfer to your pie dish that you will be baking your pie in.

Directions for pie filling:

  1. Set oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Core and peel all of your apples.
  3. Slice the applies into small cubes, thin slivers, etc. (your desired shape!) and place into a large bowl.
  4. In another bowl combine lemon, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg.
  5. Pour this mixture on top of the apples and rub all over so that all apples obtain the mixture.
  6. HERE IS THE SECRET PART—let this mixture SIT OVERNIGHT!
  7. Give at least 24 hours for the apple mixture to sit. The following day, add this mixture into a pot with the 2 TBSP of butter and cook on low until most of the liquid has been absorbed.
  8. Pour mixture into your bottom pie crust.
  9. With the second pie crust, cover your pie how you please! I choose a lattice design but the options are endless here!
  10. Cover your pie with aluminum foil and place in the oven at 400 degrees for 10 minutes.
  11. Turn down the temperature of your oven to 325 degrees, uncover your pie and bake for another 30-40 minutes.
  12. Let cook and ENJOY!
