Getting Pregnant

I am 28 years old and currently 6 months pregnant with my first little babe! We are having a baby girl who is due into this world on November 4, 2020 (her daddy’s birthday!) What a wild year to be born!
We are eternally grateful that I have had a healthy and easy pregnancy so far and cannot wait for our sweet bundle to make her arrival into our hearts and family!
Since announcing my pregnancy, I have had curious minds wondering things like if this was planned, was I on a birth control pill (or some form of birth control) how long we were trying, etc. So here is the nitty gritty!
For those who know me, I am a PLANNER but no, this was not in the plan quite yet! I realize there are several couples out there who are actively trying to get pregnant so I want to share some tips I have learned along my health and fitness journey as well as from my OBGYN that might aid a couple in conceiving more easily or prepare your body for pregnancy, when the time is right for you. Please note, the following tips are solely what I have learned from my own journey and the opinions of my OBGYN.
1. It turns out when you are in shape, eat clean & treat your body right, it can be super easy to get pregnant! There are several recommendations in regards to pregnancy that advise you to get your body into its prime, before trying to conceive.
2. Your body reacts to pregnancy much better when you already have an exercise routine implemented & you continue with that plan throughout the duration of your pregnancy. Prior to pregnancy, I was strength training 6 days a week, actively doing yoga several days a week and riding my bicycle for cardio. I have continued with all of these things through my pregnancy and plan to do so up until the very day of delivery! I FEEL AMAZING! It can be difficult to start implementing an exercise routine after finding out your pregnant. So best to start now!
3. The less alcohol you consume, the higher chances you have of conceiving. This goes for the man also!
4. No, it does not matter how long you took birth control for. Your body does not need a “cleanse” to conceive. If the circumstances are right, you may even get pregnant on birth control! I took a birth control pill consecutively from the time I was 16 years old until the month I found out I was pregnant. For those counting, that’s 12 straight years!
5. When you eat out less & eat more clean, home cooked meals, you will consume less GMO’s. GMO’s contain weird hormones that mess with your own hormones and can hinder your ability to get pregnant as easily. EAT HOME MORE! EAT MORE WHOLE FOODS!
6. Having your body in its most natural state (no drugs, medications, etc.) will give you the highest changes of conceiving. Our bodies THRIVE off being in their natural state!
While I know the reality is, there are several other factors why couples struggle to conceive or it takes longer than expected, these are ways I have found to make conceiving and pregnancy in general, more optimal.
It’s weird how motivation changes with the seasons of your life. Prior to getting pregnant, I never considered how living a healthier lifestyle, may increase my chances of conceiving or having an easy, healthy pregnancy. My motivation to continue with this lifestyle was how happy it made me. During pregnancy my motivation comes from the fact that I am growing a life and her health is solely dependent on me right now!
